ABOUT

Welcome to Diversity Explained. Our mission is to humanize diversity-related topics through real-life stories, historical context, and everyday language.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of people speaking past one another on diversity-related topics. It feels like there’s a lack of understanding for the terms and themes we’re all ‘expected’ to know. For instance, what is cultural appropriation, and where does it show up? Or why should we strive for cultures rooted in equity over equality? Also, what’s wrong with the term ‘minority’?

I'm constantly told by family members, senior leaders, and friends how insecure they feel about engaging in these subjects. Almost everyone gives the same reasons: they’re scared of saying the wrong thing or lack confidence in their knowledge of the issues. That's why we've built Diversity Explained, a new content platform designed to make everyone fluent in traditionally unapproachable diversity-related concepts.

Through our weekly essays and our podcast network, you’ll see and hear us humanize a diversity topic every week in layman's terms, making each one approachable and accessible. We’ll also always cement this knowledge using powerful examples from history and popular culture because none of this exists in a theoretical vacuum.

While we’ll never tell you what to think, we’ll share insights that will help you develop your own informed perspective.

So, thank you for signing up; thank you for joining us on this journey; thank you for engaging in these conversations.

If you like what you read, please share this website with anyone in your network who you think will appreciate our work.

Together, we will build towards a more human, connected, and understanding culture.

With gratitude,
Porter Braswell
